First off, I must apologize for neglecting my blog over the past few weeks. After seven long months of searching for the perfect job at a Seattle Startup, I finally succeeded!
SEOmoz has been very supportive in making Seattle feel like home for Courtney and I in several ways – inviting me to company events, extended invites to attend weekly beer night, etc. Their hospitality helped us quickly form close relationships with the people who work there, to the point where we view them as our extended family.
A few weeks ago when I attended beer night, my friend Rand pulled me aside to tell me that SEOmoz wanted to hire me. At first I thought it was just a belated April fool’s joke, but it wasn’t. As I sat there in complete shock, he explained the details of what I would be doing…suppressing the urge to jump up and give him a big hug was difficult, but somehow I managed to contain my excitement!
The first week was awesomely weird. After spending my days with cats and only interacting with people after 5 PM for seven months, my social skills needed some work. I kept expecting my cats to jump onto my lap throughout the first couple of days, but they didn’t, because they weren’t there. It is great spending my days interacting with other people again.
As “Captain of Special Projects” I have been able to tap into my History major skills – something I never thought I would ever do again. My new job essentially requires me to collect and analyze information. Sounds boring to most people, but I absolutely love it!
The best part about working at SEOmoz, is that I get to be around the love of my life all day, every day! I couldn’t be happier!
Though I won’t be writing as often as I did before getting a job, rest assured, I will continue to post more frequently than months apart.
